When I was 12 years old, seeing my sister doing so I too started giving food to an old street dog , that used to roam outside our house. Then slowly slowly she felt like our home belongs to her too. So she started living there. After few months she gave birth to two cute puppies.
She died after a couple of years later; but by then her next generation were comfortably settled outside our home. We did not have to do much for them, we just had to give them food during afternoon and night. And they were happy and healthy with that much.
My mother is not an animal lover. May be as we had so many people living in our family, so never found the time to deal with creatures other than humans.
So my mom was not that much happy with us, allowing these animal to cross the border and to enter inside that area which is still part of our home. But unfortunately, she got married to a man who is a big lover of cats. Sometimes, I feel like my dad love our cats more than his own children. So by default, being wife of an animal lover, she too started seeing these animals as our family member.
The dog in the picture ‘Tommeey’, is the fourth generation of that street dog which we brought in to our home long time back. And just like my cat, my mom now likes him too. As you all know my mom was a teacher, who is now retired from her job. So every morning when she used to go to her school, Tommeey used to follow her seeing her walking alone.
Let me share a small story with you all. Once there was a marriage reception going on in our neighborhood to which my mom was also invited. So when my mom went there, Tommeey followed her to that place too. But as no one allows street dogs to enter party hall. So my mom entered the place all alone. And after one hour when my mom came outside that place, she saw Tommeey was still waiting for her.
My mom never told me, but I believe instances like this change a person perception towards other living creatures. Now “Tommey” is an old dog, who still follows all of us when we go outside our home.
Now we have a cat, two dogs, and more than fifty pigeons living inside and outside our home with our family members. And they are all free to do whatever they want.
And we as family, are really happy that whatever we have is sufficient to feed so many lives.

Ha! 🙂 I wonder how do you people prefer to stay away from these innocent souls. I think I need to send Tommeey yours way too to open your hearts. 🙂
Jokes apart, yes I try to give as much love and care to these innocent souls within my limitations.

What a wonderful service you gave and got from these wonderful animals. I can’t imagine life without dogs. Glad your mom found an animal lover. Sweetest story ever of Tommey waiting for her. 🙂

They do much more for us in return to what we do them. They somehow make life beautiful and enjoyable for us and most importantly, they help my parents in filling that emptiness in their lives as I and my brother are now staying away from them due to career.
No I do not think my mom, is ever going to read this story. This story is not there in the book too. 🙂

Tommey has such a lovely coat. I like this story — it is very similar to the story of my first dog. 🙂

Animals arrive in our lives with a message, just when we need it. I think it is wonderful you have so many beautiful and innocent souls living under your roof. Lovely story Arindam… I enjoyed it very much!

Yes that’s true. They arrive in our lives with a message and they love and care for us more than we do for them.
I am glad you enjoyed this small story.

The four legged friends are perhaps the most loyal ones we can every hope to have in the world. Like your mother, I too had my heart opened to a little stray puppy that we had adopted, but was finicky to pet. But he wouldn’t let me alone and broke my reserve one fine day 🙂
This is a good way of promoting your book Arindam. Wish you my best.

Thank you!
But honestly,I do not think blog promotion helps much when it comes to publishing a book; until and unless few other blog owners decide to read it and if they decide to give a nice feedback on their respective blogs after liking it.
I was just trying to give a glimpse of what I am offering them with this book; so then if any of them decide to buy this one he will not feel disappointed. Now I am planning some other stuffs regarding my book’s promotion. I wish and hope it will work. 🙂 And then Amazon is also helping my cause by giving a flat 13% discount on my book from today onward. So let’s see.

Animals are reliable, many full of love, true in their affections, predictable in their actions, grateful and loyal. Difficult standards for people to live up to.

Arindam, this is so touching. Kudos to you and your family for taking these creatures in. I’ve traveled a bit – enough to know how animals are treated outside the US – and when others do the same and are shocked, I try and help them understand that Americans have had enough resources to go around forever. We spoil our kids, our animals. Others are in different circumstances which we need to understand. However, it’s gratifying to see what you are doing. Blessings to you.

Honestly, I am not doing much. We just give them little bit of food and as we own a big area surrounding our home, which is full of trees; so it helps them to find a place to live. That much only we do for them. 🙂 But yes, my cat lives in our home, sleeps on my bed and rule our locality. 🙂

Ha! We’re not big cat lovers here on the island, where so many native birds have gone extinct and where cats become feral hunters. But we love all creatures. The dogs, on the other hand – well. They have their OWN beds in the house, and occasionally are permitted on the sofa ONLY if we put down a ‘special blanket’ and invite them 😉 They’re pretty good, all in all. Cheers, Arindam!

Bless you and your family for looking out for the animals. They do return your love and attention.
Arindam, I got your book Thursday. I may never get around to writing the book I once dreamed of writing. But it’s a thrill for me to know that I’m a part of your book (p. 159). Thanks for including my comment. I’ll be reading your book during my winter break from school.

Thanks a lot Judy. 🙂 Yes, as you might have seen, I dedicate this book to all of you and my beautiful and dearest niece. And I’ve also said that its’ not only the effort of mine but also efforts of all of yours who helped me to gather enough courage in me to write and publish this book. It’s a wonderful journey. But while saying so, I do realize promoting and marketing this book is a difficult task for me. Because I’ve published it in a country where I do not live. So I am doing my best to help my book to reach a larger audience. I somehow feel that, this book deserves a large group of readers.

I love animals, too. And, men who love cats hold a special place in my heart. I believe it takes a special sort of person to know and understand a cat.

Thank you! Since my birth I always share everything I own with all of my cats. There is a chapter in my book on this whole episode of my life. It’s emotional but, that’s one of the most important chapter of my life. 🙂

I just read about a dog rescued by a shelter recently. The dog had been abused by the other dogs kept by the family & no one defended the dog. The owners decided to have one of their kids shoot it but the kid missed & hit its leg instead. Now the shelter is caring for all the wounds it received from the other dogs fighting with him and had to amputate its leg, I am so happy you and your family are caring enough to bring these little ones into your care.

It’s a very inspiring and sad story, Sunshine. We are not doing much. There are people who are doing more than what we do; with pure dedication. Few days earlier I watched on television, than a man of my own state feed more than hundreds of street dogs every morning. He leaves his home with bags full of foods and drinking water. And by seeing him all the street dogs run towards him. After supplying them foods he moves to his next destination. I believe we need more of such people in this planet. Lets wish and hope we have them soon.
