When It comes to foreign country only one country comes to my mind, yes you guessed it right. It’s USA. I have never been to that place but I do not know what attracts me to that place. And coincidentally, I might be the only blogger in this universe whose more than 70% readers are from a country other than his own, and thanks to people of US for their support in creating such a blog stat. So it’s a post dedicated to all the people living there for all the support.
I guess I am not the only one, every software engineer of my country live with a dream to go on site to this beautiful country so that he can earn a bigger amount to help his family. So thanks to all the people of USA for promoting talent, without caring much about the nationality, And I am not a little bit confused to accept it. Because I realize the reality.

Arindam, your country seems exotic to me. The people, the vistas, just beautiful. So, we have a mutual admiration society. 🙂

Thanks Judy. I believe that is the way this world is going to be a better place to live. We all need to respect each other’s culture and beliefs.

You must be the first person to take the photo challenge and run with it every week! I was surprised to see our nation’s capital featured as your post for “foreign.” Nice! Now I need to come up with something…

No, Patti. There are many people who take this photo challenge more seriously than me. I sometimes give it a miss, if I do not like the theme. 🙂
Yes this picture was taken by my sister in law. I just edited that one, because I believe this picture is really beautiful. Looking forward to your interpretation.

I was lucky enough to visit Washington DC on a US government fellowship.
Before I left I was feeling so nervous thinking that I will be such a foreigner and will feel I don’t belong there with my Maldivian and Islamic dress code.
But my god, the place is awesome. The American Dream is real. I see more respect to other people there than I find here

Yes Amira, that’s wonderful thing. Even all the people I know from my family and friends have great experience while their stay in US. Some of them also told me that, it’s wonderful to see the care and respect those people shows for pregnant ladies. We should learn these things from them rather than trying to copy their style of living.

Great photos Arindam. I tend to forget that everyone’s home country is “foreign” to someone.

I’m heartened by Amira’s comment and by your apparent infatuation with my country. From the inside, it’s sometimes hard to have perspective. We know our warts, our unkindnesses, our own poverty and cruelty. So it’s particularly good to know that someone coming from a country like India or the Maldives and particularly dressed differently finds themselves warmly welcomed and safe when visiting. I suspect your dream will come true. There are a lot of exchange opportunities. As a matter of fact, during the summer I hosted a Chinese student for several days. She had spent the summer working in a small village in my state and was on her way back to China after a bit of touring. What seemed to impress her most was the “lack of people.” Elbow room…;-}

Yes I also felt happy sharing my thoughts on your wonderful country. I believe we need to respect each others culture and make sure we are not having any presumptions with us about either the place or people living there while visiting a place. That’s when we get a real view of that place and experience all the good thing. I am glad that most people living in your country are wonderful hosts.
Just like you mentioned the “lack of people” impress me too. Since my childhood I do not find myself comfortable in crowded places. 🙂

One of the things I never anticipated from this blogging business is the connections we make with people around the globe. It’s great to get insights into the daily lives of folk who live in far flung places, and a sense of what life is like for people in those countries.

October 29, 2012
Absolutely. This what blogging has helped me to realize too. Thanks to the technology now this world looks a really small place and we the people get a chance to share our thoughts with each other honestly and can help each other to understand each other’s culture better.

When I was about 5 years old and learned where my mother was born, I said I was going to go to India. I’m still waiting to get there, but now that I have so many blogging buddies from all over your beautiful country who all share their daily lives with me, it feels as though I’m visiting there every day – remember the cup of ginger tea we drank on your balcony? – which somehow brings me one step closer to my dream…

And yes how can I forget that ginger tea! 🙂 Rosie Auntie, I wish your dream will come true soon. And it’s a wish from bottom of my heart.

Wonderful post Bro. Just like you, I was drawn to America. It is a land of opportunity after all but honestly, I do miss the place that I grew up. Both have their unique qualities that makes it hard to choose. For now I choose America but now my dream is to grow old in the country where I was born. Personally I think America is for the young and able, when it’s time to lay low, relax and enjoy the sunsets without stress, I’m back to the tropics. Good luck to your hopes and dreams.
