Straight from my heart

Life is Simple…Keep it Simple!

“Life is pretty simple: You do some stuff. Most fails. Some works. You do more of what works. If it works big, others quickly copy it. Then you do something else. The trick is the doing something else.” -Leonardo da Vinci

I do not have the answer to the question “what is life?”. To be honest, I never tried to find the answer to this question; maybe I know I am not that intelligent to find the answer. But my approach towards life is very simple. I believe life is very simple; we humans make it complicated by our desires. So, why to make life a complex one, by knowing that we can keep it simple? I am not sure this attitude will make you successful in life or not; but I can guarantee you this attitude will help you to be happy.

“All the great things are simple, and many can be expressed in a single word: freedom, justice, honor, duty, mercy, hope.”  – Winston Churchill

Life’s biggest happiness lies in small and simple things. Nothing in life can give you more happiness then seeing the smile on your child’s face. Nothing in life can increase your confidence more than your wife or girlfriend’s belief in you. No one can love you more than your mother. No one can make you feel more safe than your father or elder brother. No one can make you feel more important than your children. These are few people, who together define a person’s life.

We all want to make this world a beautiful and much better place to live; but have we ever thought if we would make our home and its surrounding beautiful; then the world would automatically be more beautiful? If we would share the love we are giving to our own children with someone else’s children; then the world would be a much better place to live in. We want a big home to live; but can we guarantee we can fill it full of happiness, peace, and joy? No we can’t, as money can’t buy these things. So why make things complicated by increasing our demands from life? In a home, the number of bedrooms hardly matters, what matters most is, “We must make that thread of love which binds us all a much stronger one.” By doing so, a small home will look more beautiful than the home of our dreams. We must realize a building or a structure becomes a home only when the people that stay in it remain connected with the bond of love, peace, and togetherness.

We always hurt ourselves by judging others, by expecting something from others. But is it necessary and warranted to judge someone else? We are not God, so how can we differentiate good and bad? So rather than analyzing someone else, it’s better to check our compatibility with that person and move on. Every individual has their own way of living, with their own ideas, beliefs, and thoughts to live with. Why make things complex by trying to change that person so we can be compatible?

We all want to be happy, we all want to feel good. And in order to make someone feel special, we try to give that person an expensive gift. But are these gifts really capable of making someone feel special? No. The best way to make someone happy and feel special is to give the gift of a smile.

“We shall never know all the good that a simple smile can do.” – Mother Teresa

We all think we are the most intelligent creatures in this world, as we have an intelligent mind. But does the mind offer a solution to every question of life accurately; does the mind show us the correct path in life every time? I hope not, the mind can sometimes be wrong; but the heart never misleads. So why do we make decisions in life difficult by giving value to what the mind decides rather than what the heart feels?

“There are no easy answers but there are simple answers. We must have the courage to do what we know is morally right.”    -Ronald Reagan

So let’s do not make life too complicated by dreaming too big, by hoping too much, by expecting the unexpected, and by ignoring those small things where happiness lies. Let’s make it simple by doing the basics rights, by welcoming whatever life will bring rather than getting disappointed and by learning from failure. Let’s spread the love and smile; let’s value relationships and celebrate those small achievements life throws at us.

“Life is full of beauty. Notice it. Notice the bumble bee, the small child, and the smiling faces. Smell the rain, and feel the wind.  Live your life to the fullest potential, and fight for your dreams.” – Ashley Smith

  1. Excellent! This is dear to my heart as I find that the more I focus on the simple things that bring joy, the happier llife is and then more joy comes. I think many of us spend time on grand schemes and expectations without spending a minute to show gratitude for the simple and small… Thank you Arindam! :-)

    • Thanks a lot Elizabeth. I hope we both look life with same vision. Yes I do believe, all the happiness of life lies in the small things or moments life offer us. It’s up to us if we can grab those moment and make maximum out of them. Best wishes to you. :)

Beautiful words, Arindam. I can feel the truth in them. I’m not quite sure if I could ever stop dreaming big, believing in my dreams, which are not always that simple though. But that doesn’t stop me from gaining joy in the simple things, like a smile or other beautiful things. I always try to take other people as they are – not judging too much. That’s not always easy to do, but too often came I to like people, which I didn’t understand at first. I think that if you like people for who they are, knowing what defines them – it’s friendship.

You always make me think, Arindam. That’s why I switched off the tv (even though I was watching a show) to better be able to concentrate on what you have to say. It was worth it! Thanks for sharing your thoughts! All my best, Cassie.

    • First of all, Cassie let me say sorry to you, because due to me you have to switched off the TV. :)
Jokes apart, thanks a lot for taking your time to read this post and as always pouring your kind words & wishes on me. I really appreciate it. There is nothing wrong in dreaming big; just like you even I do the same. But what is important is that, we must not mix our dreams with the reality. We need to be careful that our dreams are not affecting to the moments we live in real world. I hope you are intelligent enough to keep your dreams & reality simple so that life will remain simple & beautiful. All my best wishes to you Cassie. :)

  3. Hi,
I totally agree, the most important things in life is not what we own or what we want but the people around us, Family, Friends, this is what brings a lot of happiness to a lot of people, material possessions can be replaced, but we cannot replaced those that are dear to us.

    April 20, 2012 at 3:28 AM

    • Hi Mags,
I will completely agree with you on whatever you said. There is no material possessions which can be replaced with the people who care for us and love us. Thanks a lot for sharing your beautiful thought here. :)

  6. ‘We hurt ourselves by judging others’, I love this line, as well as your entire post. We do complicate matters don’t we? And until we can be thankful for the simple things, nothing at all will please us much. Another wonderful post dear friend.

    April 20, 2012 at 4:01 PM

    • Each one of us at some point of time got hurt by judging the person. But I wonder why do we do so? We are not god and we do not have the credibility in us to prove someone wrong. So now I do not judge others; I just check if I am compatible with that person or not. :)
And Yes we do complicate matters to often and let me tell you few years earlier I was really good at this. :)
Thanks a lot my dearest friend for as always being so kind to me. Renee, every time you visit here, you bring a smile on my face with your words. :)

  8. Absolutely true. All of it. I’m always amazed when I discover this again and again. I guess I haven’t learned this lesson yet. Thanks for the nudge. And the judging each other? I’m still learning that, too.

    April 20, 2012 at 10:38 PM

    • Thanks a lot Barb for taking your time to read this one. But let me tell I am still learning the Judging each other part. :)

      April 20, 2012 at 11:14 PM

  9. You are so right, Arindam. And I very much enjoy the new layout of your posts — with the quotes separated, and in a different color, like you have them. It makes it very enjoyable to read. I couldn’t agree more on the simple pleasures — happiness comes from within.

    April 21, 2012 at 12:53 AM

    • Thank you Melissa. I hope you are the only one, who read this post long time back. I wrote this for Joe’s blog; But I thought it would be good to re-post it again in my blog after long time. As other than you no one else was aware of this post.
Yes I am trying to figure out the layout and design of my blog. But somehow I am not sure to go with which one. I hope I am going to stick to this one after reading this comment of yours.

      April 21, 2012 at 1:10 AM

      • Really? This is the post you wrote for Joe’s blog? I thought it sounded familiar, but I didn’t recall all those quotes. Either way, it is well worth reposting! :)

        April 21, 2012 at 1:14 AM

        • Melissa, You forgot this post of mine with in few months. Now I hope I have to quit writing. :)

          April 21, 2012 at 1:19 AM

          • I knew you were going to think that! But no, I did not forget the post. However, now I have proof that what I said about the quotes is true! They really do stand out better the way you have them now.

            April 21, 2012 at 1:20 AM

            • Ha! :) I knew you were going to reply that. Thank god, you did not forget this post. And I am really happy that, I do not have to quit writing.

              April 21, 2012 at 1:26 AM

  10. What is life? I think that is a question man has been seeking the answer to, since day one. I doubt that mortals will ever really know why we are here, for what purpose. I do think though, that since we are here, we should all try to live by the Golden Rule and look at life like the gift that it is. :) . Ashley Smith has the right idea, I think.

    April 22, 2012 at 3:38 AM

    • Yes, Ashley Smith is absolutely right. And yes, as you say with out try to search for the purpose of us being in this planet, it would be a better approach if we will live the life to its fullest.
Thanks a lot Marcy for this thoughtful comment. :)

    April 25, 2012 at 1:38 AM

    • Thanks a lot Terri for taking your time to read this one. I am more than happy to hear that, it reflects your own thought about life. Great to meet you through blogging. :)

      April 27, 2012 at 11:24 AM

  13. Thanks for sharing these lovely words with us on this blog too. I think you are absolutely right. Happiness lies in enjoying the small things in life, everything that doesn’t cost a dime, but a true heart. I also know you are aware of those who live on the fringes of the society who might want more than what the rest are willing to share with them. But even among the poorest I have found that their happy moments are those they share with their love ones. And I often find that the poorest are those who more eagerly are willing to share than those with all the riches in the world. Still I want for them to have their part of the world too. Which is of course a fight that complicates life – as you put it.

    April 26, 2012 at 10:00 AM

    • You beautifully shared this thought. I love the way you said- “. Still I want for them to have their part of the world too. Which is of course a fight that complicates life.” It’s so true. Yes, The fight for the survival complicates life. But that’s how it goes. We all have to find small & simple moments of happiness during this fight for survival, fight for existence. Thanks a lot for the visit. :)

      April 30, 2012 at 1:44 AM

  14. You write beautifully, Arindam. I love the last part, the excerpt. This view you brought up is something a conundrum to me as well. Really, why so many people seem to give themselves something to stress about when there’s no need for it?
I want to slip in contentment as well. I guess it’s what most people lack sometimes. As simple as contentment to what and who you have, and not wanting too much more can bring you satisfaction and relief.

    May 1, 2012 at 8:32 PM

    • You are absolutely right Rommel. Why do we need to take unnecessary stress without any need! We do not too many things to be happy in life. It’s all in the mind. If we think we will need it , then for sure the need of that thing going to occur.
Thanks for stopping by & leaving a really thoughtful comment Rommel. :)
